Bull Pen Day Use Area is located along West Clear Creek and has something enjoyable for everyone. Not too far from the parking lot area is the creek so there are plenty of beautiful spots to get your feet wet without having to hike to it. These areas are great for families because the water is shallow for little kids to play in and there is room to set up tables and chairs for a nice picnic with your loved ones. For families with older kids who may desire for a bit deeper water can journey down the well-marked trail. At the beginning of the trail, passed the fence, you are greeted with a patch of ginormous trees to walk through.
The main path has no trees to provide shade except for the very beginning of the trail. But you can always dip down to the water where cool, refreshing waters and tall canopies of trees will provide for a pleasant escape from the sun. To get to this first swimming point, there is a separate dirt path veering off from the main path on the right, just a bit farther up the creek. This is the first of many paths that separate from the main and head to different locations along the water. This first spot is just deep enough that kids and adults can practice their swimming but still have the safety net of shallow parts in some areas.
For the daring type of adventurer, walk down the main path even farther and there will be second clearly visible dirt path to the right leads you to a cliff jumping spot suited with different height red rocks to provide a fun jumping experience at a level you are comfortable at. Along with the cliff jumping feature, is a swing rope that you can hold on the side of the creek in which you can sway yourself over the water and release. This cliff jumping spot is the most populated and frequented so there are typically large crowds of people. If you prefer more seclusion and find pleasure in nature hikes, venture even farther down the main path even farther till you get to what appears to be the end, then it swerves to the right, down to the water and pools of clear water surrounded by red rocks and steep, colorful canyon walls.
